Reyka is a small batch wheat and barley grain vodka hand crafted in Iceland. It is produced in Iceland’s first vodka distillery using a rare Carter-head still with a high copper level and undergoes a single distillation of 6 hours. A claim is that this is the world’s first “green” vodka as production is powered by geothermal energy from underground volcanoes. This vodka 40% Alc./Vol and produced in one of the coldest places on Earth.
The unique Nordic features of its production also include using arctic spring water that runs through a 4,000-year-old lava field and filtering the vodka through ancient arctic lava rocks.
A shot of this reveals a vodka that is clean and strong, with limited character. It starts with a hint of sweetness then a lively astringent feel, but is lacking in distinction. There is little burn. The story of its production ensures it creates a good conversation and a memorable experience.
Skál (or cheers).
